she sputters in a
puckered-up,
lemon-mouthed,
Brillo pad kinda way,
as if creativity
and a penchant
for fantasy were
the road to
disappointment,
a land of shriveled
fairy feet, treading
on shards of glass,
trapped in swampy
muck-filled dungeons.
I shivered,
I cried,
I repressed,
I died.
But I’ve been born again.
And this time, I have wings …
