Time Punching

If I could grab time
around the neck,
I’d choke her nearly breathless
like a jealous sibling,
I’d push her head underwater
and hold her there indefinitely,
shake her silly and
punch her in the face.

Forgive me for wanting
to beat the clock.
It’s not that I’m a violent person,
I just can’t seem to get ahead
of the game.

Time probably wouldn’t even stop.
She’d just go on taunting:
“Tic Toc, Tic Toc, Tic Toc.”

  1. Love this poem. I personally would like to give time a lobotomy. Shove an ice-cream cone in her slippery little hand and send her to the beach for a doze in the sun. Just until I get caught up!
Thinking of You much. Cheers and Namaste. :)

  3. Wow, Aleza. If poetry is supposed to make the reader resonate with the message you are a huge success! Nicely done. Thanks for the comments on my blog. None of us really know what’s after this, do we? I just like to hope for more. And if there isn’t anything, I won’t know the difference!

    • Yeah, it totally occurred to me that time is typically referred to in masculine terms. But when I wrote this, I felt certain she was a woman.
